Pendle Witches Film

03/02/2011

In order to mark the 400th anniversary in 2012 of one the one of the most notorious witch trials in English History, 'The Pendle Witches', Raising The Roof Productions Ltd intend to create the definitive documentary drama based on the testimony of clerk to the court, Thomas Potts.

This film will encompass dramatic reconstruction leading up to the events, re-enactment of the trials themselves and the final outcome of the courts proceedings mixed with an investigative approach using a presenter on the scene and on the spot interviews with the characters/witnesses standing for both the defence and prosecution.

Our intent is to highlight the thoughts and practices of the time and to find out the truth about those fated Pendle Witches. Using a modern day investigative journalistic approach, we will reveal parallels between the scapegoated communities of both today and yesteryear, whilst producing a highly dramatic and entertaining film worthy of such a poignant anniversary in not only local but national history.

We would like to hear from anyone interested in becoming involved with this project either local to Pendle or further afield.

Documentary shooting in Sudan

7/12/2010

Our MD and DoP, Mark Oulson-Jenkins, has been working in Sudan for the last six weeks, shooting a documentary regarding the recent elections there, which were the first to take place in twenty four years, following the end of the Sudanese Civil War in 2005.

It has been a tough adventure for Mark, with gruelling challenges facing him at every step of the way, including encountering a number of mine fields! However, it was most certainly worth it, having experienced and witnessed the hardships and difficulties of life which we can’t even begin to understand within the comfort of our ‘developed’ world.

'Africa Rising' wins One World Media Award

14/07/2010

All of the team here at Raising the Roof Productions are both delighted and very proud to announce that our MD and DoP, Mark Oulson-Jenkins, has been awarded a One World Media Award in the 'Millennium Development Goals' category for his work on the film 'Africa Rising'. Mark was the DoP (Director of Photography) for the entire duration of the film, working alongside Jamie Doran of Clover films, which was shot in Ethiopia in 2008.

Director Jamie Doran dedicated the award to the people of Sodo Region in Ethiopia who proved that, "given the opportunity, Africans will take themselves out of poverty".

Quoted from http://oneworldmedia.org.uk/awards/shortlist-winners/mdgs

WINNER: Africa Rising – Jamie Doran, John Moffat, Mark Oulson-Jenkins; Clover Films for TG4

Imagine an Africa without thousands of Western aid workers telling Africans what to do; imagine an Africa where Africans are proving that they can take themselves out of poverty for a fraction of the cost spent by typical NGOs. With a cast of thousands, that's the message of 'Africa Rising'.

The judges said:

"A superbly shot and uplifting film about poor people in a rural region of Ethiopia who get together to help themselves. The jury found this a compelling piece of work that drew the viewer into the heart of this community as it struggled to shake off a dependency culture. From an endearing woman dismissed as mad for starting a café in her bush village, to the candid money lender lamenting the loss of his profits from the poor, this rich and inspiring production had it all".

Brookfield Construction - The Strata Tower

12/05/2010

Raising the Roof Productions have won a commission by Brookfield Multiplex to produce their latest film detailing the latest construction and engineering feat of Strata, part of the regeneration of The Elephant and Castle. It is now the tallest residential building in central london. Shooting at the top of the 43 storey tower did involve a steady hand and a head for heights. Extreme heights, that is! We did, however, experience what are conceivably the most spectacular views of London you could ever wish to see.

The Film will be available to view on the RTR blog and on our projects page very shortly.
